CO THEATRE’S AWARD-NOMINATED SHOW THE WOMB COMES TO SISTALAND FESTIVAL 2026

We are incredibly excited to announce that award-nominated theatre company Co Theatre will be bringing their internationally celebrated production The Womb to SISTALAND Festival 2026 as part of our Friday night AFTER DARK programme.

Written by Aylin Rodoplu and directed by Elise Xiaqi Eriksen, The Womb is a bold, absurd, funny and deeply honest piece of contemporary feminist theatre exploring womanhood, patriarchal systems, trauma, survival, and the lived realities many women continue to navigate today.

Following acclaimed performances at the Arcola Theatre and recognition as a STOFF Best Emerging Artist nominee, the production has built a growing audience both in the UK and internationally.

ABOUT THE SHOW

“It’s absurd. It’s naked (not literally). It’s bloody (literally). It’s about women.”

The Womb is a place no one knows the address to, but every woman somehow recognises.

Three women arrive in a strange and inescapable place where memories, pain, misogyny, trauma and survival collide through witty dialogue, unsettling humour and original techno-atmospheric music.

The play balances absurdity and comedy with sharp truths about patriarchal society, sexism and societal inequality, creating a performance that is provocative, moving and unforgettable all at once.

As writers and creators Aylin Rodoplu and Elise Xiaqi Eriksen describe, the work was born from lived experiences, shared frustrations, and a desire to encourage more women to speak openly, support one another and challenge systems that continue to fail them.

And honestly? That feels deeply aligned with everything SISTALAND exists to create.

WORDS OF LOVE

This is one-act contemporary theatre at its best: fast dialogue, clever physicality, and just barely enough information.”
